Update - Director Duncan Jones has taken over the project.
Blizzard Entertainment and Legendary Pictures are really decided to work together to bring us a World of Warcraft movie.
We know since last year that it won't be a full CGI movie, they're indeed thinking about a live-action Warcraft movie:
"The idea of a complete CGI movie has come up in discussions but it's not something we've really considered because it takes so long to generate just the brief amount of footage that we create for the game. [...] That department's focus is creating the footage for the games to tell the story; it would be a huge undertaking and it's not really something that we're ready to do anytime soon."

VP of product development at Blizzard Entertainment
It's been confirmed today that we will have a live action Warcraft movie, and the name of the director has also been revealed: acclaimed Director Sam Raimi will be in charge of the film adaptation of Warcraft!
The plan is for Raimi to supervise development of Warcraft and shoot the picture after he completes work on Spider-Man 4, which gets under way early next year for Columbia Pictures. IMDb is maybe listing the movie for a release in 2011, but I think Warcraft in 2012 sounds more realistic.
I'm quite glad that a high-caliber director has been hired to tackle the adaption of Warcraft, but Director Sam Raimi has to keep in mind that Warcraft isn't Spiderman. I mean Warcraft is a huge world that calls for respect: it has followers (like a religion, it's not about fans anymore) all around the world. I don't really know what to think about Sam Raimi's latest statement about his involvement in the Warcraft movie:
"At its core, 'Warcraft' is a fantastic, action-packed story. I am thrilled to work with such a dynamite production team to bring this project to the big screen."
Director Sam Raimi
Well let's be optmistic, Sam Raimi could very well bring us the World of Warcraft we've ben craving for since so long.
